Our client is a Hague-based NGO with the purpose of improving conditions for pregnant women worldwide, enhancing reproductive health, and the newborn's wellbeing. They are looking for a Financial Accountant who will support the Controller and the Senior Leadership Team in managing financial functions. Apart from this, the perfect candidate would be someone who is comfortable tackling different tasks within the organization. This position will be based in the Netherlands and is a key role in maintaining robust financial systems and ensuring the sustainability of the NGO.

Your responsibilities as a Financial Accountant is:

  • To support the end-to-end finance processes such as preparing journal entries, completing ledgers and preparing budgets and forecasts under the direction of the Controller.

  • To assist with monthly reporting, budgeting, and reforecasting processes for the relevant stakeholders.

  • To collect, interpret, and analyze the NGO's accounts as required.

  • To reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts and prepare monthly financial statements.

  • To monitor and resolve bank issues including fee anomalies on a regular basis.

  • To ensure regular oversight of cash levels so that appropriate funds are available to support day to day activities.

  • To assist with running the payroll for staff, ensuring this is on time, detailed and accurate for auditing purposes.

  • To review and process expense reports.

  • To support the Controller with the end-to-end audit process of current systems.

  • To ensure financial controls are in place and in compliance with laws and regulations regarding record keeping, employee status, and taxes.

  • Manage all aspects of accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.

  • Act in a manner using initiative and judgment which will result in maximum benefits.

  • Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job.


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent or comparable attainment by experience.

  • Proven working experience as an Accountant Bookkeeper

  • Evidence of continuous professional development.

  • Fluent in Dutch and English is essential

  • Ability to speak Spanish and French is desirable

  • Experience and Knowledge

  • Sound experience and knowledge of the use of information technology in the management of financial systems and the provision of financial information and controls.

  • Practical evidence of developing and maintaining good working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, partners and customers, developing a positive personal and organizational profile and building relationships.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication/influencing skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and able to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis/management information.

  • Demonstrable commitment to equality and diversity issues in both service provision and employment practices.

  • Experience working at an NGO
