The Communications Manager will be responsible for co-developing and implementing the organization's communications strategy, creating online and offline communication materials and maintaining public relations to consistently articulate mission and accomplishments.

In this hands-on position, the Communications Manager will work closely with the Executive Board and senior management and with research and educational staff, project managers and other staff members. The Communications Manager acts as the point of contact for members of the press and other media representatives.

Main responsibilities:

  • Take the lead in formulating and prioritizing (internal and external) communications strategy 
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a communications plan based on the communications strategy 
  • Work with a variety of groups and projects across the organization to provide content (write, edit) for various (project) websites, newsletters, brochures, bulletins, blogs, news reports, press releases and other forms of internal and external communications
  • Manage the distribution, maintenance and feedback from these communications 
  • Play a leading role in the maintenance of digital channels and contribute significantly to the outreach of the organizations in (social) media 
  • Edit the organization’s website and create publicity materials 
  • Help define content of events and symposia 
  • Develop and maintain relations with partner organizations, media representatives and other external bodies

Job requirements:

  • Educational qualifications
  • Master’s degree in communication or related field
  • Work experience
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in an international setting
  • Experience and knowledge
  • Proven track record of working on complex projects with multiple stakeholders 
  • Experience working in teams to create content and brainstorm and translate new ideas to audience 
  • Demonstrated full spoken and written fluency in English (and Dutch preferred) 
  • Skillful copywriter 
  • Experience in developing and implementing communications plans

  • Demonstrated excellent communication, presentation, and organization skills 
  • Pragmatic and hands-on attitude 
  • Sharp intellect, creativity and the ability to synthesize complex topics into engaging narratives, including infographics 
  • Keen attention to detail, structured and well-organized 
  • Excellent arguably computer software skills – Microsoft Office and Adobe CS (Lightroom, InDesign, Photoshop)
